Racing cancelled Very windy day – with most of fleet away at a Gp14 event in Lough Ree

Great to see Barry McN making a return to sailing with Anton H today. The pair retired in Race 1 having suffered a broken tiller extension – leading to capsize. In race 2 they capsized near Faughan Jibe mark while trying to get the spinnaker untwisted. Bill J and James J took a spill at the windward mark (Conniborrow). Peter F and James H in flying form.

The first race took 56 minutes, the second race only 25 minutes. I wonder was the course changed or shortened. Or perhaps the wind picked up?

Most of the boats were away at a Gp14 event in Swords. Ken L/Davy L and Anton H/Barry McN went out for a sail on a gusty shifty day

All boats racing are sailing on the same handicap. I didn’t see the race so cant say much about it. I do note that only one race was held and it took just 32 minutes. Perhaps this suggests a cold April Thursday night?

This may have been the first race of the year however the guy doing the results has fallen behind and is doing his best to try and work out which piece of paper relates to which race. This race may not have actually happened on this particular day, but it would have been close. Anyway, I do remember the race. It was very windy and we raced in Culmore bay. Coming down from the bay reaching over to the power station Anton H was lucky to survive a death roll. In race two the GP14’s all crossed the line within second of each other with Anton H in the Laser very close behind, who took the race on LFYC handicap.

Peter F got his boat freshly painted and it must have made it very fast.
